Books and Hope – Supporting Learners to Stay in School

Books and Hope – Supporting Learners to Stay in School

Background

The Rotaract Club of Iganga, in line with our commitment to education and youth empowerment, is implementing a project aimed at supporting underprivileged students in schools with essential scholastic materials. Many learners across Busoga face challenges that go beyond academics—some lack basic items such as exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, and school bags. These seemingly small gaps often lead to low morale, absenteeism, and in worst cases, school dropouts.

Through this initiative, we aim not only to bridge this gap by providing materials, but also to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. Our outreach includes mentorship talks and encouragement from Rotaractors and invited role models who share real-life stories to ignite hope and determination among students.

Justification

Education remains one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. Yet, without the basics, many learners are left behind. By supporting students with materials and mentorship, we contribute to both their academic success and emotional resilience.

This project directly responds to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Inclusive and equitable quality education, by ensuring learners stay in school, feel supported, and are inspired to pursue their dreams regardless of their background.

We invite partners, individuals, and well-wishers to join us in this mission. Your contribution—whether in form of scholastic materials, financial support, or volunteering your time—will make a lasting impact in the life of a learner.

Together, we can give more than books. We can give hope.
