Rotary Club of Iganga Salutes Two Members Installed as Canons in Central Busoga Diocese

January 26, 2026

On Sunday, 25th, All Saints’ Cathedral in Iganga was filled with joy and thanksgiving as nine distinguished members of the community were installed as canons of the Central Busoga Diocese. Among those honoured were two dedicated Rotarians, Rtn Paul Mwogeza and Rtn Rose Byogero, both members of the Rotary Club of Iganga. Their elevation to canonical status by the Rt Revd Patrick Wakula, Bishop of the Central Busoga Diocese, marks a significant milestone not only for the diocese but also for Rotary in the region.

Recognising Service Beyond the Club

In the Anglican tradition, canons are recognised for their exemplary contributions to the life of the church and society. Rtn Mwogeza and Rtn Byogero were singled out because of their longstanding commitment to community development, faith-based outreach and ethical leadership. Both have been instrumental in supporting the growth of Central Busoga Diocese and various diocesan programmes, showing that service knows no boundaries between faith communities and civic organisations. Their appointment underscores the church’s appreciation for lay leaders whose influence extends beyond the sanctuary.

A Proud Moment for Iganga and Rotary

Members of the Rotary family join in thanksgiving and celebration in honour of Canon Rtn Rose Byogero, reflecting the spirit of Service Above Self.

The Rotary Club of Iganga, chartered to bring professional and philanthropic leaders together in service, is immensely proud of its members. To have two out of nine new canons come from the club is a testament to the deep impact Rotarians make in Ugandan society. Club members accompanied Paul and Rose to the ceremony and rejoiced in seeing the Rotary wheel represented at the altar.

“We congratulate Canon Mwogeza Paul and Canon Byogero Rose on this well‑deserved honour,” said a club spokesperson. “They embody Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self’ in every way. Their installation as canons reminds all of us that when we serve our communities with integrity and compassion, we inspire others and build bridges between institutions.”

Building on Rotary’s Values

Rotary International, with over 1.4 million members worldwide, encourages its clubs to engage in projects that promote peace, fight disease, support education and strengthen local economies. The achievements of Mwogeza and Byogero are rooted in these values.

Paul Mwogeza currently serves as the headteacher of Kaliro High School, and Rose Byogero is a retired headteacher. They have channelled their educational leadership into service – mentoring young people, upholding high academic standards, and providing guidance to parents and teachers alike. Their careers have equipped them with the skills to uplift others, demonstrating how experienced educators can drive positive change within and beyond the classroom.

A Celebration of Collaboration

The installation at All Saints’ Cathedral was more than a ceremonial event; it was a celebration of collaboration. Representatives from business, government, civil society, and faith communities came together to honour those who dedicate their lives to others.

As the Rotary Club of Iganga continues its mission to serve above self, the recognition of Rtn Paul Mwogeza and Rtn Rose Byogero as canons will inspire even greater dedication among members.
