Green Roots – Reclaiming Our Environment, One Tree at a Time

Background

The Rotaract Club of Iganga is committed to protecting our environment and promoting sustainable development through our flagship environmental project, “Green Roots.” This initiative focuses on tree planting in schools, communities, and public spaces as a direct response to the increasing effects of deforestation, climate change, and environmental degradation in the Busoga region.

By working with schoolchildren, local leaders, and partner organizations, we are not only planting trees, but also planting knowledge—raising awareness about environmental stewardship, climate action, and the role young people can play in preserving the earth.

Justification

Uganda loses thousands of hectares of forest cover each year, and regions like Busoga are experiencing rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and soil erosion. These changes threaten livelihoods, food security, and the health of future generations.

Through “Green Roots,” we are contributing to climate resilience, air purification, and sustainable ecosystems. The project also strengthens civic responsibility by involving youth in the process, turning them into champions of environmental action.

This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 13 on climate action and SDG 15 on life on land, reinforcing our role as young leaders in addressing global and local environmental challenges.

We call upon all environmentally conscious individuals, corporate partners, and schools to join us in making Iganga—and Busoga at large—greener. Your support can come in the form of tree seedlings, funding, technical expertise, or volunteering during planting and awareness drives.

Together, we can grow a cleaner, cooler, and more sustainable future.
Support “Green Roots” – because every tree we plant is a promise to tomorrow.
