Rotaract Club of Iganga Joins the World in Celebrating World Environment Day Through Tree Planting
On June 5th, the Rotaract Club of Iganga joined millions around the globe in celebrating World Environment Day, a moment that reminds us all of our shared responsibility to protect the planet we call home. This year’s theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”, called for urgent action—and our club responded with a meaningful initiative: tree planting.
With shovels in hand and a heart for service, Rotaractors gathered at [insert site e.g., Iganga Town Council Primary School, a community roadside, or any location used] to plant trees aimed at restoring green spaces and promoting climate resilience. Over 100 trees were planted, including indigenous and fruit-bearing species, chosen for their environmental and nutritional value.
Tree planting is more than a symbolic gesture—it is a long-term investment in cleaner air, improved biodiversity, and better health for future generations. The project also served as a platform to engage the local community, especially young people, in environmental conservation.
This effort reflects Rotary’s Area of Focus: Supporting the Environment, and shows how small, consistent actions by youth-led groups like Rotaract can drive real change.
As we continue to serve above self, the Rotaract Club of Iganga remains committed to promoting sustainable development, protecting natural ecosystems, and building a greener Busoga.
Because when we plant a tree today, we plant hope for tomorrow.
